Anandiben Jethabhai Patel (born 21 November 1941) is an Indian politician who is also the longest serving woman MLA. 1. Anandiben studied as a single girl among 700 boys
She was admitted to Boys’ school as there was no other school in the area. This is very shocking that she studied as a single girl among 700 boys.
She was then shifted to a girl school Nutan Sarv Vidyalay in Visnagar in the 8th grade and was awarded the “VeerBala” award in Mehsana for her achievements in athletics.
2. She was very passionate about studies and was the only girl studying Bachelor’s of Science in her college
Anandiben joined a college in 1960 and was the only girl in first year science in the college.
3. Continued her studies after marriage
In 1965 she moved to Ahmedabad along with her husband where she joined Master of Science. She later joined as a school teacher at Mohniba School Vidyalaya in 1970 and taught there for 30 years.
4. Her introduction into the world of politics was quite dramatic
Anandiben saved 2 girls from drowning during their school trip. She came to the notice of the BJP when she jumped into the Narmada river to save two of her students, who had tripped into the raging water.
She did not join then as she was hesitant about getting into political scenario at first. But she joined it eventually seeing that politics could be a medium to serve people.
