Many historians believe that April Fool’s Day was introduced in France. When the pop Gregory 13 in 1582 asked all European countries to leave the Julian calendar and adopt the Gregorian calendar, in which the new year began on January 1 instead of April.

Some people refused to accept this change, and some people did not know about this change, so they continued to celebrate New Year on April 1. The rest started saying April Fool to those who celebrate New Year in April. People began to fool each other by doing pranks and slowly this practice gradually spread throughout Europe.
