He also had Irish roots. His great-grandfather was an Irishman named Abe Grady who immigrated to the United States where he married a freed slave.


He was born on January 17, 1942 and his birth name was Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr.


When Ali was 12-year-old his beloved bicycle was stolen in October 1954, he reported the theft to a police officer Joe Martin. He was a 12-year-old boy looking for revenge.

The officer, who was also a boxing trainer, suggested that the Ali should first learn how to fight, and he took Clay under his wing. Six weeks later, Ali won his first bout in a split decision.


Did you know that before becoming known as Muhammad Ali, he changed his name to Cassius X.?


Ali was banned from boxing for three years for refusing to serve in the Vietnam War During his three-year exile from boxing, incited by the draft evasion conviction,  Ali starred in a Broadway musical.


Ali composed some verses through which he taunted opponents and praised himself. He recorded an album of spoken verse.


Muhammad Ali is the only person whose Hollywood Walk of Fame Star is hanging because Ali did not want the name of Muhammad to be stepped on.


In 1990 Muhammad Ali went to Iraq to meet with Saddam Hussein about releasing 15 American civilians being held in Iraq and he got all 15 American prisoners released.


Another interesting facts is that the gloves Ali wore to defeat Liston and win the world title earned him more money than the victory itself.

The gloves Ali wore to win his first world title was purchased for $836,000. Did you  know that for the record, Ali had earned only $630,000 for the victory.


Emotional Story- Mike Tyson saw Muhammad Ali’s last match at age of 14 and he got very mad at Larry Holmes who beat Ali.  Mike called Ali  and said: I’ll grow up and get him back for you.

After 7 years Tyson met Holmes. Retired Ali stepped in the ring and said: “Remember what you promised.” Tyson destroyed Holmes in the 4th round.
