Ever since she made her instagram debut in April last year, Shudu has seen a phenomenal rise in her fan base, with more lakhs of followers already. But do you know Shudu is not your average human model ? She’s the world’s first digital supermodel.

Her USP? She’s the world’s first digital supermodel
Date of birth: End of April 2017
Nationality: African

Shudu is a product of CGI, 3D computer generated graphics used for creating special effects in films and television. The self-taught artist claims that his project is aimed at spreading the message of empowerment and inclusivity.

How did she become popular?

The 29-year-old London-based photographer Cameron-James Wilson is the creator of Shudu, a striking Instagram model from Africa with more than 130,000 followers. Shudu grabbed many eyeballs after pop star Rihanna’s make up brand Fenty Beauty reposted one of Shudu’s images of wearing the brand’s lipstick shade

In an interaction with Highsnobiety, Cameron explained that Shudu is inspired by quite a few people but “her main inspiration is a South African Princess Barbie.”

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the photographer describes her as a “virtual” celebration of beautiful, dark-skinned women.

He told the site: “She is not a real model unfortunately, but she represents a lot of the real models of today. There’s a big kind of movement with dark skin models, so she represents them and is inspired by them.”

Despite her entrancing beauty, Shudu is a purely digital being, a fact that Wilson revealed after Shudu’s image went viral, ending months of frenzied speculation about her origin earlier this year.

Shudu has been called “the world’s first digital supermodel” and the obsessive fawning her life-like features provoke suggests she won’t be the last.

Using a 3D modelling program, her creator can make his model pose any which way he likes – and there’s no denying she looks uncannily similar to a human.
