The Indian Army has claimed that a massive footprints of the mythical creature ‘Yeti’ was sighted near the Makalu base camp earlier this month.
Sharing images on their official Twitter handle, the Indian Army said their Mountaineering Expedition Team found the Yeti’s “mysterious footprints measuring 32X15 inches”.
The Army said it discovered the footprints of the “mythical beast” on April 9 at Makalu Base Camp in Nepal. It also claimed that the “elusive snowman” has also only been sighted nearby at Makalu-Barun National Park. However, in the images, the prints appear to be of a single foot.
The officer said the army is in possession of a video and it would also be released
“We got the input about 10 days back and yet we held on to it. But then we decided that there is photographic evidence which matches with earlier theories. We tweeted as we thought it would be prudent to excite scientific temper and rekindle the interest,” ,” said a senior Indian Army official. “Evidence has been photographed and handed over to subject matter experts. The idea is not to sit on judgement, which should be addressed in a scientific way,” said the officer.
“Some of us who reject the story surely shall have a definite answer to the evidence. As they say, nature, history and science never write their final story,” he noted. The officer said the army is in possession of a video, which would also be released.
Yeti- ‘The Abominable Snowman’
The Yeti is also known in popular culture as ‘The Abominable Snowman’, owing to descriptions and first person accounts of its large size and terrifying nature. The yeti is also an elusive creature which belongs to traditional Nepalese folklore. It is usually described as being furry and ape-like.
The jury is still out, however, on whether Yetis exist indeed or if they are part of a legend
While many claim to have spotted the snow giants which reportedly have an ape-like structure and a massive body frame, others say that there is no undeniable proof that has ever been presented.
Footprints in the Himalayan snow have been observed by mountaineers and scientists over the past several decades, and it is believed they belong to the rare mystical creature. Several expeditions with the specific aim to spot a Yeti and prover its existence have been undertaken since the 1950s. Concrete proof backed with scientific evidence, however, remains missing despite the use of modern DNA technologies and high-end recording devices.
In folklore, the Yeti, also known as the abominable snowman is an ape-like creature said to inhabit the Himalayas, though its existence has remained unproven.
