A Jodhpur court has sentenced Bollywood superstar Salman Khan to five-year jail term in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, while other actors — Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam Kothari — have been acquitted

Salman Khan is accused of killing a black deer while shooting for the film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.  Along with him Saif Ali Khan, Neelam, Tabu and Sonali Bendre are also accused in this case. They all arrived here on Wednesday.

The case happened in September-October 1998 when these film actors were in Rajasthan for shooting of ‘Hum Saath Hain Hai’. Salman Khan and his associates were accused of hunting 2 chinkaras and 3 black deer (black bucks). Salman was also booked under the Arms Act.

How many cases were registered against Salman, what happened to them?


There were a total of four cases. Three Deer Hunting and Fourth Arms Act. Actually, his personal pistol and rifle were recovered from Salman’s room, but the license period of these weapons was over.

Where and when was hunting done?

He is accused of hunting deer at Jodhpur’s Ghoda farmhouse and Bhavad village on 27-28 September 1998. Salman is accused of hunting 2 black deers on October 1 in Kankani village.

Why Saif Ali, Neelam, Sonali and Tabu are also accused?

In the Kankani village hunting case, witnesses had told the court that after hearing the bullet’s noise they reached the spot. Saif Ali, Neelam, Sonali and Tabu were also with them in the jeep. These are accused of inciting Salman. Seeing the villagers, Salman left the dead deer and left in his jeep.

How many cases are completed & how many remaining?

1) Kankani village case: In this case, the decision is to come today.

2) Ghoda Farm House Case: On April 10, 2006, the CJM Court had sentenced to 5 years. Salman went to High Court. He was acquitted on July 25, 2016. The state government has appealed against this decision in the Supreme Court.

3) Bhavad village case: CJM Court convicted Salman on February 17, 2006 and sentenced one year’s sentence. The High Court has acquitted Salman in this case too. The state government has appealed against the verdict in the Supreme Court.

4) Arms Case: On January 18, 2017, the court acquitted Salman. The state government has appealed against this decision in the high court.

Salman spent 18 days in Jail in last 20 years

In 3 cases of deer hunting, Salman has spent 18 days in police and judicial custody.

6 days: The forest department detained him on October 12, 1998. He remained in jail till October 17

6 days: On April 10, 2006, in the case of the Ghoda farm, Salman was sentenced to 5 years by the lower court. He stayed in jail until April 15.

6 days: The session court confirmed this sentence. Then from 26 to 31 August 2007, Salman was in jail.
