The title of forthcoming Bollywood film Cheat India has been changed to Why Cheat India. The upcoming film has got a new title just a week before its release.
The film’s title was reportedly changed after an objection from Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
Film’s co-producer Tanuj Garg told Mumbai Mirror, “The Board had concerns about the previous title. We had an extensive conversation about the proposed changes since the theatrical trailer and TV promos have already been certified with the original title. We felt this could lead to dual communication with the audience but finally, in the interest of time, we mutually agreed on a title change.”
A statement issued on behalf of the film’s producers — T-Series Films, Ellipsis Entertainment and Emraan Hashmi Films — read: “The CBFC had concerns about the title ‘Cheat India’. We had an extensive conversation with the Examining Committee and Revising Committee regarding the proposed change as the film has been in public domain for a year, and more importantly, because the theatrical teaser, trailer and television promos had already been certified with the original title.
“This would lead to dual communication a week before the release. The duress of lack of time left us with no choice but to mutually agree to the new title, ‘Why Cheat India’.”
Tanuj Garg of Ellipsis Entertainment tweeted the film’s new poster and captioned: “Don’t ask WHY! But it’s WHY! Sigh! ‘Why Cheat India’.”
Here’s the poster of Emraan Hashmi starrer with the new title:-
In an interview with IANS, Emraan had said, “I have seen how exam papers are leaked during exams. Some of my friends’ friends bought question papers in advance and later they failed in the exam because they got the wrong set of questions. I have seen how students paid money to invigilators to fill the answer papers. I never got involved in such activities, but I have seen them happen.”
Directed by Soumik Sen, Why Cheat India is the story of a con man who decides to take advantage of the academic world where there are very few opportunities and too many aspirants, and only the smartest can survive. Also starring Shreya Dhawanthary in the leading role, the film is set to hit the screens on January 18, 2019.
Earlier, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh starrer Padmavati released as Padmaavat and Loveratri — Salman Khan’s production starring brother-in-law Aayush Sharma — came out as Loveyatri.
