The MeToo movement has given Bollywood a shock wave when renowned celebrities came under the spotlight. Many B-town celebs supported the movement on social media and encouraged all the accusers to name and shame their sexual predators.
In the #MeToo movement, which hit Bollywood in August last year, veteran actor Alok Nath was accused of rape by TV producer Vinta Nanda and Soumik was accused by three women of inappropriate behaviour.
Madhuri Dixit has shared the screen with Alok in films such as Hum Aapke Hai Koun. When asked if she was heartbroken after seeing such names in the MeToo movement, the actress told PTI,
“It is always shocking. Because you’ve known them and you’ve not known them like that. It is always shocking when something like that comes out. What you’ve known them and what you’re reading is two different people. It was so shocking.”
For the uninitiated, Alok Nath has been facing heavy and heinous charges such as rape currently. His co-worker and writer Vinita Nanda had taken to social media to voice out the sexual harassment she faced due to Nath and also alleged that he raped her 19 years ago. She went on to take legal action against him. On the other hand, a couple of other actresses too spoke up against harassment incidents that they faced because of the veteran actor.
As for Soumik Sen, an anonymous story about a Me Too incident against the filmmaker was reported because of which he was asked to exit the Emraan Hashmi starrer Why Cheat India which was directed by him.
Soon after the accusations were made on Alok, he was expelled by Cine & TV Artists Association (CINTAA), and recently a six-month ban has been imposed on the veteran actor by Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) for non-cooperation, as reported by Pune Mirror.
On the work front, Madhuri is currently gearing up for her next multi-starrer release Total Dhamaal, directed by Indra Kumar. The film also features Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Anil Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, and Sanjay Mishra in pivotal roles. It will also mark the on-screen collaboration of Madhuri and Anil after 15 years.
Interestingly, the Total Dhamaal actress has also worked with Nana Patekar who was one of the first accused in the Me Too movement by Tanushree Dutta.
