The first look of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s biopic which has been directed by Omung Kumar and stars Vivek Oberoi in the lead role was released online on 7th January 2019. While the poster of the upcoming release has created a lot of buzz amongst the audience, it is not the only movie being made on the honourable Prime Minister of India.
Back in June 2018, while promoting his film Sanju, actor Paresh Rawal had said that he would be taking up the challenging task of playing Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a forthcoming biopic. Rawal had commented in an interview to The Indian Express that his team was in the process of locking the script and was planning to shoot the film from October. It was widely believed that if a biopic on the present PM was to be made, Modi’s role would be played by Paresh Rawal who is not only a BJP MP but is also a huge admirer of the PM.
“No one can pull off the role better (than me).”- Says Paresh Rawal
So, it seems like Rawal is not discouraged by these developments. The actor is determined to fulfil his dream of playing Narendra Modi and will be going ahead with another biopic on the Prime Minister.
Talking about the same in an interaction with Mid-Day the veteran actor said, “No one can pull off the role better (than me).”
Talking about why he admires the Prime Minister, the actor said
“When I was nine years old, my mother told me that we would avoid eating rice on Mondays, since the then PM Lal Bahadur Shastri – who was allotting ration for the Army men in our war-struck country – had requested the citizens to do so. The demand was honoured by many because it had been made by an honest man. Similarly, when Modi told citizens to give up their [cooking gas] subsidies, people paid heed, because the request was made by an honest man.”
Paresh also opened up about two movies being made on the same subject and said that PM Modi’s life has sufficient fodder for directors to explore. He also revealed that his biopic will highlight how a man with limited experience first became Gujarat’s Cheif Minister, and then the Prime Minister. Modi is a passionate countryman- Says Rawal
“He’s not an armchair (prime minister), but a passionate countryman who has visited abundant villages (to study problems) firsthand. These factors will be the driving forces of our biopic,” Paresh was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.
Meanwhile, the first poster of Omung Kumar’s directorial was unveiled by Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis in 23 languages. It has been reported that the movie too will be released in several languages.
