The trailer of Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Thackeray, a biopic on Bal Thackeray released a couple of days back and had courted controversy due to some dialogues in it. The film has been criticised by many who were offended due to certain dialogues. That’s not all. People from the film fraternity criticised it too. Just recently, it was Tamil actor Siddharth who pointed out some dialogues in the Marathi trailer, which he claimed were anti-South Indians.
Now, it’s Nawaz’s Gangs Of Wasseypur co-star Richa Chadha, who humorously shared her two-cents on Nawaz’s acting prowess.
The actress took a dig on Nawaz in a recent Twitter post, as she extended a cryptic message to the actor addressing him by his screen name Faisal from ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. Richa who played the role of Nawaz’s mother in the film franchise took to Twitter and wrote, “अरे ई हमरा फैजल तो बाईपोलर निकला बे !” (Oh my Faizal turned out to be bipolar).

It seems the jibe at Nawaz is because of the role he is playing in the upcoming film as compared to the one he played in his last movie Manto.
For those unaware, in Manto, Nawazuddin played Saadat Hasan Manto, a progressive writer who is famous for his thought-provoking stories and penned several stories about the partition as well. And now in his very next Hindi film Thackeray, he is playing a controversial political leader Bal Thackeray who was considered an extremist by many.
Rang De Basanti’ actor has slammed the movie
However, Richa is not the only actor, South Indian star Siddharth has also taken to social media to slam the Thackeray’s biopic. In a series of tweets, the ‘Rang De Basanti’ actor has hit out at the film’s trailer saying that it is trying to make money by promoting ‘hate speech against South Indians’.
Nawazuddin has repeated ‘Uthao lungi bajao pungi’ (lift the lungi and *’#$ him) in the film #Thackeray. Clearly hate speech against South Indians… In a film glorifying the person who said it! Are you planning to make money out of this propaganda? Stop selling hate! Scary stuff!

Poetic justice is when a Muslim actor from UP gets to play the part of the revered Marathi bigot in a propaganda film.

The conveniently un-subtitled #Marathi trailer of #Thackeray. So much hate sold with such romance and heroism (Music, tiger roars, applause, jingoism). No solidarity shown to millions of South Indians and immigrants who make #Mumbai great. #HappyElections! https://t.co/F13jMcIRle

Meanwhile, the trailer features Thackeray’s rise from humble beginnings to establish a political party as he felt it was important to get involved with the people to serve the people. It has been directed by Abhijit Panse and written and produced by Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Shrikant Bhasi along with Viacom Motion Pictures. The movie will hit the screens on January 25, two days after the birth anniversary of Bal Thackeray. Also Read: The Accidental Prime Minister Trailer Triggers Funniest Memes & Jokes
