#MeToo in Bollywood is no longer a new term as many big celebrities have been accused of sexual harassment. Recently, famous director Rajkumar Hirani was accused of sexual harassment by his assistant director, who worked with him from March to September 2018. It was apparently the first time that a Bollywood A-lister was accused of #MeToo
Sonam Kapoor’s reaction on Rajkumar Hirani’s #MeToo allegations angered Netizens and they called her with names like “biased”, “hypocrite”, “double standard” and so on
Sonam Kapoor was asked about the same allegation in one of the interviews. Netizens weren’t impressed with her response and brutally trolled her statement.
She had said:-
“In the Me Too movement, I always believe a woman. But in this case, we need to reserve our judgment. Two things here – one the film is as important as the movement and second, I have known Hirani for many years and I respect him as a filmmaker and a man. I will talk about it at length when the movie is released. But what if it’s (allegations) aren’t true, the movement will get derailed.”
This left many baffled since Sonam Kapoor was one of the first people to come out in support of Tanushree Dutta who is credited to bring this movement to our country.
And Twitter was quick to troll call her out for being a “hypocrite”
A user wrote, “Well..There….& those words – any inclination I may’ve had to watch this film has effectively and officially ended, reading those words. 🏻 Thanks but no thanks Ms Kapoor. @sonamakapoor @hiyer @fayedsouza”
Sonam Kapoor saying she believes all women, just not when they’re accusing the producer of her new film, and especially not when the film is as important as the movement, and anyway, the woman’s probably lying https://t.co/SQvVaZ439T pic.twitter.com/92zwI0zdAs

Here are more reactions to Sonam’s response
Sonam Kapoor’s “feminism” is flakier than the chicken puffs sold in Malad’s bakeries. At least those puffs can be enjoyed with evening tea.

It’s Sonam Kapoor. I don’t expect anything more than this half-assed statement.

U cannot pick and choose who to believe or not based on your relationship with the accused. NOONE should be saying Sonam stands for women again. Bollywood is total bullshit. I feel sorry for the women who are not A list. They will not be protected. Physically sickening.

Put a bunch of marbles in a tin can and shake it around: makes more sense than what Sonam Kapoor said about Rajkumar Hirani. “Our film is as important as the movement.” What even.
