Shiva-ratri means ‘auspicious (Shiva) darkness (ratri). Mahashivratri celebrates the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Lord Shiva has many temples dedicated to him not just in India but also around the world. In Shiva temples, this special occasion is celebrated grandly.
Prior to the holy festival of Mahashivaratri, we are going to tell you about 8 temples where Mahadev stays (According to belief).
1. Tungnath Temple
Located in Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand, Tungnath is the highest Lord Shiva temple in the World. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is the highest Shiva Shrine among the Panch Kedar
2. Brihadeeswarar Temple
Also known as Periya Kovil, RajaRajeswara Temple and Rajarajeswaram, Brihadeeswarar Temple, is a huge Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India.
3. Vishwanath temple
Kashi Vishwanath temple- This temple is dedicated to the god Shiva and is famous for its grand aartis.
4. Ramanathaswamy temple
Located in Tamil Nadu, Ramanathaswamy Mandir is an important pilgrimages of the Hindus. The temple is dedicated to god Shiva.
5. Somnath Temple
The Somnath Temple is a very sacred Hindu pilgrimage site which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located near Veraval, in Saurashtra, on the western coast of Gujarat. It is considered to be one of the twelve “Jyotirlingas” (lighted lingas), which is a symbol of Shiva.
6. Kedarnath Temple
Located in the Northern India, Uttarakhand, Kedarnath temple is the Char dham destinations and one of the most important temples for Shiv Puja.
7. Lingaraj Temple
Dedivcted to Lord Harihar (a form of Lord Shiva), this temple is about a thousand years old.
8. Sri Kotalingeshwara Temple
The Kotalingeshwara temple near Mysore in Karnataka is world famous for being home to the largest Shiva linga in Asia.
