The historical journey of Santa Claus is fantastic. The story of Santa Claus begins with Nicholas. Who is Nicholas? He was born during the 3rd century in Patara village. His parents died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young.
Nicholas distributed his inheritance to assist the needy, the sufferings and the sick. He dedicated his whole life to serve God and was made Bishop of Myra at very young age. He became famous for his generosity, love for children, concern for sailors and ships.

How Saint Nicholas Became Santa?
A poor man had daughters. It was the third century and in those days woman’s father had to offer valuable things to husbands – a dowry. The man lost his all hope as his beautiful daughters were of marrying age, and he could not give them dowry. Therefore, his daughters were destined to be sold into slavery.
A daughter left her stockings and shoes before the fire to dry. Mysteriously, a bag of gold appeared there on different occasions. Since then a custom started in which children hang their stockings and put out shoes, eagerly awaiting gifts from Saint Nicholas.
The father became very confused and determined to discover who was helping his family. He stayed up all night to see the helper. When the sack was dropped he ran down the road and recognized the young bishop and thanked to him. But bishop ask the man to give a promise that “not until I’m dead will you let anyone know how you received the gold.” Saint Nicholas’ Day, observed on December 6.
