There is a common debate that why Kauravas instead of their bad deeds went to (heaven) and Pandavas went to hell? Learn the real truth behind this story. This mythology will shock you.
After the war ended, Pandavas ruled over Hastinapur for over 36 years. After that they crowned Abhimanyu’s son Parikshit as the King of Hastinapur and started their journey toward Swarga (heaven). In the journey they were accompanied by a stray dog.
Something strange happened in their journey
One after the other, the Pandavas brothers started dying. Draupadi was the first to die. According to Dharamraj’s view, Draupadi died because she was always partial to Arjuna though she was married to all five Pandava brothers.
After Draupadi, Nakul and Sahadev died on their way but Yudhishthira did not turn his back once as he told himself that “he has renounced everything”.
Here is a version of the story:
When Yudhistira reached the door of the heaven, the door keeper requested Yudhisthira to walk alone. But Yudhistira said he cannot enter alone as the very dog had accompanied him all through his journey.
Immediately Lord Yama took his divine form. Yes, the stray dog was Lord Yama.
It is believed that first he was taken to hell where he saw his brothers screaming. The whole place was full of foul smell, and blood was flowing. Then he was taken to heaven where he found Kauravs rejoicing.
Yama asked Yudhisthira – where would he like to go? To which he replied that he would join his brothers and wife Draupadi in hell as a hell is no hell if Pandavas reside there.
This proved be an illusion created to test him and to enable him to atone for his sin of telling a lie to Drona.
One of the Pandava’s brothers Bhima killed an elephant called Ashwatthama and shouted, Ashwatthama is dead. Drona who was the commander of the enemy forces, assumed they were referring to his own son. He decided to confirm it with Yudhishtira, eldest of the Pandavas, who had never uttered a lie.
Yudhisthira knew it was an elephant but he said may be it is an elephant or a man. He had been forced by Lord Krishna to at least tell a half truth.
After listening to this Drona lowered his weapons and wept. He lost interest in the war and his life. He was killed in the war.
So, all the Pandavas went to heaven as per his version of the mythology.
