Though Tulsi is a holy plant but while worshipping the Shivling, never put tulsi (basil) leaves on it.
It is also known as haldi and should never be offered on a Shivling. The reason behind this is that it is used as an ingredient to enhance beauty and Shiva is said to be a saint who stays away from worldly pleasures.
Ketaki flower was cursed by Lord Shiva that it will never be used in worshipping his symbol, Shivlinga.
You can offer coconuts to Lord Shiva, but should never worship Shivlinga with coconut water.
