A brutal rape has has shaken the Valley of Kashmir on 4 September when the police revealed how nine-year-old girl was brutally gang-raped allegedly by her stepbrother and his friends, who were instigated by her stepmother, in Kashmir’s Baramulla before she strangled her to death and got her eyes gouged out with a sharp knife.

According to the police, the girl was gangraped before she was murdered and it is an open-and-shut case.

Her body, reportedly with eyes gouged out, was found just one kilometre from her house, the police said.

Baramulla’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Imtiyaz Hussan Mir, said all the accused, including two minors, have confessed to their crime.

The girl had gone missing from her house in Boniyar on August 23, following which a case was lodged on August 24.

“During the investigation, the father of the girl said he has two wives. A local and the second from Jharkhand. The missing girl was the daughter of second wife,” a police official said.

After the recovery of the body on Sunday, a special investigation team (SIT), headed by SDPO Uri, was constituted to investigate the murder… the SIT interrogated the suspects, including the stepmother of the girl, who confessed to their crime.

The girl’s stepmother was jealous of her husband’s second wife and children.

According to the police investigation, the victim’s father Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai of Lari Trikanjan, a village that sits on middle of the road between Baramulla and the LoC township of Uri, had married Fehmeeda, who lived in his neighbourhood, in the year 2001.

The couple have two sons who were 15 and 16 years old, and a daughter. In the year 2008-09, Ganai married another woman, Khushboo, from Jharkhand. In the last nine to ten years, Khushboo became the mother of two daughters and a son, all of them under 10 years of age. While as Ganai’s first wife, Fehmeeda, looked after the grazing of cattle in the local jungles, Khushboo took over the responsibility of cooking meals and other domestic chores. Over the years, Fehmeeda began feeling that her husband shared more love and company with his younger wife and her three children.

Fehmeeda decided to ruthlessly kill Khushboo and Ganai’s eldest child.

On August 23, she took her stepdaughter to the nearby forest along with her 14-year-old son, his two friends aged 19 and 14, and Naseer Ahmad Khan (28), where they raped and killed her. According to NDTV, The stepmother strangled the girl and her son struck her head with an axe, killing her on the spot, the police officer said.

After that one of the accused went back home and brought acid in a bottle. A 19-year-old man gouged out her eyes with a sharp knife and poured acid on her body,” Mr Hussain said.

The friends of the woman’s son dumped the body in the bushes and covered it with pine twigs and branches. “The axe and knife have been recovered on information from the accused,” the police officer said.

A plastic can containing acid has also been found. The police said they are building a watertight case.
