wenty-eight-year-old BJP candidate Tejasvi Surya, known for his controversial remarks, has now said that a Hindu can never be a terrorist.
While campaigning for the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in Delhi, Tejasvi said, “A Hindu can never be a terrorist”.
Tejasvi Surya is BJP’s candidate for South Bengaluru. He was campaigning in the National Capital along with actor Vivek Oberoi and former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kapil Mishra.
Speaking to India Today TV on why unnecessarily link religion to terrorism, he said, “In our Hindu scriptures, there is no sentence that justifies violence. It was a fake bogey that was created by Congress to tarnish a great civilization like ours.”
He added, “If the inspiration for violence is scriptural or religious and the perpetrator of the violence states or writes a note that the reason for his violent act is inspired by religious texts, then it is possible that there’s a link between religion and violent act. Hindu history shows no such trace.”
On being countered that if according to his views, Hindus cannot be terrorists, should any religion be linked to perpetrators for others heinous crimes like rape and murder, Tejasvi said,
“You cannot blame a religion or a philosophy for the individual atrocity unless it has been inspired by religious texts.”
He added, “For example, if a terrorist conducts a terror attack, he writes a note that he has done this to save a religion or Islam or because of God, then the inspiration for that is religious, but murder is for personal reasons.”
28-year-old Tejasvi Surya, the youngest BJP candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, has been fielded by the saffron party in place of former Union minister Ananth Kumar, who passed away in November 2018.
