Just over five/Six months after his marriage with former Bihar chief minister Daroga Rai’s granddaughter Aishwarya Rai, Tej Pratap Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA, Lalu Prasad’s elder son and a former Bihar minister, has filed an application in a family court here for divorce, apparently citing reasons of incompatibility.
Tej Pratap, who had got married to Aishwarya just six months back in May this year, sought the divorce invoking Section 13 (1) (1A) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
Section 13 (1) (1A) of the Hindu Marriage Act deals with cruelty by a husband or wife against the other. Some reports, which put out pictures of Tej Pratap’s divorce petition, claimed that the RJD chief’s son alleged in the plea that he was tortured by his wife.
“They couldn’t get along. Application under the Hindu Marriage Act was filed through me on behalf of Tej Pratap Yadav. I can’t say anything else at this moment,” Yashwant Kumar Sharma, Tej Pratap Yadav’s advocate, said. The civil court has listed the divorce petition for hearing on November 29.
Tej Pratap is currently an MLA (RJD) and had served as the health minister in the erstwhile mahagathbandhan government of the RJD, JD(U) and the Congress. He had married Aishwarya Rai on May 12 earlier this year.
High profile wedding
Their wedding was attended by several politicians including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, governor Satya Pal Malik and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan. RJD chief Lalu Yadav was out on parole to attend the wedding of his son.
The ceremony saw a huge turnout of RJD workers, who had come to meet party chief Lalu Yadav. Several RJD workers and supporters present barged into the venue and vandalised food stalls. They also stole the cutlery including plates, spoons, and glasses along with cold drinks and ice creams.
As a result, Tejashwi Yadav had to issue a public apology.
The couple made headlines when posters showing them as avatars of Lord Shiva and Parvati went up outside his house.
It looks like Tej Pratap took this portrayal seriously as he dressed up as Lord Shiva to offer prayers at a Shiva temple in Patna in July. Tej Pratap has previously dressed up as the Hindu god Krishna on several occasions. (New Video: Tej Pratap Yadav Plays The Flute, Dressed As Kanha)
He is also all set to try his luck in the movie industry. Tej Pratap Yadav had recently announced his entry into Hindi films by tweeting the poster of the movie “Rudra: The Avatar” in June. He acted in a Bhojpuri film two years ago, while he was still a minister in the Bihar cabinet.
Ms Rai, the daughter of RJD MLA Chandrika Rai, is an MBA graduate from Amity University in Noida.
