In a shocking one-side love case, a 30-year-old man took a woman hostage at gunpoint at her home in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and claimed that he loves her and wants to marry her.
The man said he would only free her if she confesses her love for him or he will kill her and family.
A large contingent of police was stationed outside the flat and had used both carrot and stick to make him release the woman, who is a model. The cops had also tried to barge in to rescue the woman but they were threatened by the accused.
Police officials said they saw that the woman was covered in blood, and the accused also tried to attack a sub-inspector with scissors. He had threatened to kill the woman if the police try to enter the house again, they said.
The accused has been identified as Rohit who hails from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.
He is a small-time model in Mumbai. He claimed that he met the woman, originally from Bhopal, in Mumbai during a modelling assignment. According to the police, the woman has been held hostage for over 10 hours.
There was blood all over the room
He was communicating with police through video-call and had a country-made pistol and a pair of scissors in his possession. In the video it was visible that the woman was injured and there was blood all over the room. He had even demanded a mobile phone charger and a stamp paper from the cops. The stamp paper was to make a sworn statement that the woman wants to marry him too, cops said.
Rohit Singh said the police were responsible for the condition of the woman.
“See all the blood. The police have surrounded us and they attacked us with knives and you can see the condition. There is blood all around. Please share his video as much as possible so that the police are brought to justice,” he says in the clip.
Rohit opened the door only after he was assured of the presence of journalists outside, and that the police would ensure his wedding with the victim.
“SP (superintendent of police) sir ne bol diya hai shaadi karayi jaeegi. Hum dono taiyyar hai (SP has assured that the marriage will be solemnised; we are ready),” Rahul said when he finally opened the door around 7.15 pm.
“Haan, taiyyar hoon par (abhi) doctor ke jarurat hai (yes, I am ready but I need to see the doctor first),’’ the woman, daughter of a retired BSNL officer, said before she was rushed to hospital.
He told Zee News that he has been harassed by police in the past.
“When I reached Bhopal, a police complaint was filed against me. They harassed me, tortured me which is why I took this step,” the news channel quoted him as saying.
“If the crowd outside the door was not there, I would have come out a lot earlier.”
Police filed two separate FIRs against Rahul
Late evening Police filed two separate FIRs against Rahul at Misrod Police Station for attempting to murder the woman as well as Sub Inspector Govind Rajput, whom he allegedly attacked with a pair of scissors when he tried to . Singh has also been booked for wrongful confinement, causing hurt to public servant and assault with criminal force, among other charges.
