Clashes emerged in Srinagar yesterday after a youth was killed and two were injured after being hit by a vehicle of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), targeted by stone-pelters in old city’s Nowhatta area on Friday (1 June 2018).
There was no deployment in the area on Friday as the authorities had decided to ease tension in the area during Friday’s congregational prayers.
Purported video footage of the incident shows the CRPF vehicle being targeted by the crowd with stones. Another clip shows the vehicle speeding through the protest and a few people trying to move an injured man away from the vehicle.
Several photographs showing the vehicle running over the Kashmiri youth are doing rounds on social media. Hitting out at CM Mehbooba Mufti over the incident, National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah said,”Earlier they tied people to the fronts of jeeps and paraded them around villages to deter protestors now they just drive their jeeps right over protestors. Is this your new SOP Mehbooba Mufti sahiba? Ceasefire means no guns so use jeeps?”
An FIR was registered against the CRPF’s Srinagar unit under sections 307, 148, 149, 152, 336, 427 and 279 of the Ranbir Penal Code, the equivalent of the Indian Penal Code in J&K.
Here is the video:
Are these the same ‘peaceful’ people of Kashmir for whom govt declares ceasefire, special packages, educational scholarships?

CRPF PRO Sanjay Sharma said the vehicle was carrying second-in-command of 28 Battalion, SS Yadav.
“They (protesters) came very close, some of them even climbed on the vehicle. The protesters were trying to lynch people inside the vehicle and the driver was trying to get out of the situation,” he said.
Sharma said that while trying to get out of the situation, somebody “might have come under the vehicle”.
Just imagine what could have happened if they would’ve been able to open the gypsy doors – Aditya Raj Kaul
Look at how a mob of stone pelters today targeted a @crpf_srinagar vehicle at Nowhatta in Srinagar, Kashmir. Just imagine what could have happened if they would’ve been able to open the gypsy doors. No Kashmir media outlets will show this truth as it doesn’t suit the propaganda. pic.twitter.com/drOyKEtTwz

If any of you are wondering why the stone pelters in Kashmir are not getting any sympathy anywhere (even from European humanitarian agencies).
This picture will silently tell you the reason 👇🏿 pic.twitter.com/SpOD0m8WjN

When you behave defensively, such snakes roam freely. For too long they have been mollycoddled by the system which hoped that by forgiveness, a snake will become human. These snakes only understand that special language spoken by Rashtriya Rifles. https://t.co/uGYemp93FR

Much more senior officer than him IG CRPF in Kashmir Ravideep Sahi has confirmed that it was a stone pelting incident. I am a Kashmiri myself, won’t get anything by defaming Kashmiris. Reporting the truth. Accept the reality.
