Union Minister Sushma Swaraj made a strong protest against an appalling comment by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. Khan on Sunday allegedly made derogatory underwear remarks against BJP’s Rampur Lok Sabha candidate, Jaya Prada.
Taking to Twitter, the Minister for External Affair posted a tweet asking founder of Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav, party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav to take cognisance of the matter.
“Mulayam brother – You are the Pitamaha of the Samajwadi Party. In front of you, Rampur’s Draupadi (Jaya Prada) is being insulted (cheer haran). Don’t make the mistake of being silent like Bhisma in the matter. @yadavakhilesh Smt. Jaya Bhaduri, Mrs. Dimple Yadav,” Sushma Swaraj wrote to Twitter, giving a befitting response with Mahabharata narrative.
Mr Khan made the controversial comments at a rally in Rampur, where Akhilesh Yadav was also present. “Many allegations were made against me by the current BJP candidate. I had to swear by my dead mother that they are false. I am not a coward. If I said it, I would have accepted it in front of you. I want to ask you, should one stoop so low in politics? This person who has sucked the blood of Rampur for 10 years – I had led that person to Rampur by the finger. I familiarised the person with the streets of Rampur.
I didn’t let anyone touch the person or even use filthy language. You made the person your representative for 10 years. But the difference between us, people of Rampur, people of Shahbad, people of India, is that you took 17 years to recognise the person, and I realised in just 17 days that the underwear the person wears is khaki,” Mr Khan had said.
A First Information Report has been filed against Mr Khan.
NCW Slaps a Show Cause Notice on Khan
National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma too construed Khan’s remarks as having been made against the actor and termed the same as “extremely disgraceful”.
She said the women panel will be sending a show cause notice to Khan.
The tweet, which the NCW chairperson took note of quoted Khan as saying “Jaya Prada ke neeche ka underwear Khaki rang ka hai”.
This isn’t the first time that the SP leader hurled ugly verbal fisticuffs at his former colleague. Just a few days back Khan had dismissed her as a mere “nacchne wali (street dancer)”
Azam Khan has been sparring with Jaya Prada ever since she joined the BJP on March 26. She had won from Rampur on a Samajwadi Party ticket in the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections, but was shunted out in 2010 over allegations of anti-party activities.
