- Twitterati blast Sudhakaran and Congress
ampaign ad that uses a Kerala household scene to deride the woman MP from Kannur, PK Sreemathy, has left many who watched it fuming.
The video was posted by K Sudhakaran, the Congressman hoping to oust Sreemathy in Kannur in next week’s election. He is the same man who, in January this year, described Kerala’s chief minister as “worse than a woman”.
Sudhakaran’s party has listed a number of measures for women’s empowerment in its manifesto, including reservations in lawmaking bodies and central government appointments.
His Malayalam ad doesn’t explicitly name PK Sreemathy, who is from Kerala’s ruling Left Democatic Front alliance, but it is not hard to see who its target is. One of the men in the household scene says, of a woman, that it was a waste to educate her and make her a “teacher”.
PK Sreemathy is popularly known as PK Sreemathy Teacher.
Besides, the conversation has lines that can be interpreted as veiled criticism of her election to Parliament. Here’s the video.
The Kerala Women’s Commission has registered a suo-motu case against K Sudhakaran, news reports said.
On Twitter, he placed plenty of flak.
