It seems like there is no safe place for women. A 23-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped by a man she befriended on Facebook along with his brothers and was later forced to marry him in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district on Friday.
According to the complaint registered with the police, she was kept at a hotel by the accused, Sonu, and was raped by him and his brothers. The accused allegedly filmed the act and used it to blackmail her into marrying him, they said.
The woman also alleged that Sonu hid from from her that he was not a Hindu.
Based on the woman’s complaint, Sonu and 10 of his family members have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code on the orders of Shamli Superintendent of Police Ajay Pandey. Also Read: From Ordering Rape To Stripping Women: 4 Decisions By Khap Panchayats That’ll Make You Go Mad
Is India really the most dangerous country for women?
A survey in June 2018 conducted by the Thomson Reuters Foundation has ranked India as the world’s most dangerous country for women, ahead of Afghanistan, Syria and Saudi Arabia. But is this really true?
The poll surveyed 548 experts on six different indices – healthcare, discrimination, cultural traditions, sexual and non-sexual violence, and human trafficking. They were first asked to name the five most dangerous countries from the list of 193 United Nations member states. And then they were asked to name the worst country in each of the above categories. India topped three – cultural traditions, sexual violence and human trafficking.
We at Awaaz Nation condemn such acts and demand strict action against accused!
