On April 24th 2019, BJP fielded popular Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans from the North-West Delhi seat for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Immediately after that bitter fight started between the Aam Admi Party (AAP) & BJP. Now, AAP has resorted to quoting Pakistan media to target Hans Raj Hans
On Thursday accused BJP candidate Hans Raj Hans of violating Election Commission (EC) rules and concealing information. BJP candidate from North West Delhi Hans Raj Hans “deliberately concealed information from the Election Commission”, said AAP.
“As per the guidelines of the Election Commission, North West Delhi is a reserved seat. But BJP’s candidate Hans Raj Hans does not come from the reserved category as he converted to Islam on February 20, 2014. He deliberately concealed this information from the EC. This is a complete violation of EC rules,” AAP said.
To make this claim, AAP asserted that several media houses had covered the news of Hans Raj Hans converting to Islam back in 2014.
Some Pakistani news portals added that Hans coverted to Islam in 2014 and has also changed his name to Mohammad Yusuf. However, he would keep working under the original name in the music industry.
Responding to the allegations, BJP senior leader Vijay Goel, said, “From the time he was born to till now, Hans Raj Hans is a ‘Valmiki’ and he has an SC certificate. People who are jealous of his popularity and since he sings Sufi, they are spreading lies. Those who have made the accusation should apologise.”
Did Hans Raj Hans Really Convert To Islam?
Hindustan Times quoted Yuvraj as saying, “Our family was completely disturbed after we came to know of the report by online news Pakistani portal and a TV channel that my father had converted his religion in Lahore. I was shooting at that time. I called up my father and he, too, was stunned at the news. We did not know how the footage got spread and who is behind this.”
He added that the family was going to investigate the matter and his father would fix a meeting with the Pakistani media house soon.
This is the third BJP candidate who is being attacked by Mr. Kejriwal and AAP. Earlier, Mr. Kejriwal had asked people to not vote for BJP’s East Delhi candidate Gautam Gambhir stating that he will be disqualified for possessing two voter ID cards.
The AAP had attacked BJP’s South Delhi candidate Ramesh Bidhuri stating that he had not mentioned about an FIR against him at the time of filing his nomination and he would be disqualified.
Tough Fight For North West Delhi Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency
