The usage of foul language during electioneering hit a new low on Sunday, 14 April. Veteran SP leader Aazam Khan stoked a controversy with an “underwear” Jibe against film actor and BJP candidate Jaya Prada, fighting the Lok Sabha polls from Rampur against him.
Ironically, SP lists ‘respect for women’ as one of the promises in its manifesto released just four days back. The remarks were made at a rally held in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur on Sunday in presence of SP president Akhilesh Yadav.
Azam Khan in apparent reference to Jaya prada said, “Jisko hum ungli pakadkar Rampur laaye, aapne 10 saal jinse apna pratinidhitva karaya…Uski asliyat samajhne mein aapko 17 baras lage, main 17 din mein pehchan gaya ki inke niche ka underwear khaki rang ka hai (Someone that I mentored personally and introduced to Rampur, someone who led you as a leader or 10 years, you took 17 years to identify them but I recognised in just 17 days that even the underwear worn by them is coloured khakhi)”.

Azam did not stop there, he further made remarks against BJP
“BJP candidate! You told TV channels after performing ‘puja’ that there is a ‘daanav’ in Rampur. I have to finish. I did not know what ‘daanav’ meant. My Hindu friends told me that it means ‘rakhshas,” said Khan.
“Remember, for two people, I was expelled from the SP. I did not rebel. I did not complain and I waited. I did not change the boat,” he said.
Urging people to stay united, the SP leader said, “Hug Dalits because injustice has been done to them for thousands of years. Think and decide but once you decide, don’t go back. Stay united and you will see that the throne from here to Delhi will be yours.”
“It is not a question of victory or defeat. It is not even a question of my victory or defeat. The question is if the change will happen in the country or not,” he said.
“Let one Azam Khan get sacrificed but PM Modi’s cruel rule must go way. Those who make Ali-Bajrang Bali fight, their rule should go,” he said.
Obnoxious, Shameful Remark: BJP
The video of Khan’s purported speech was also doing the rounds on various social media platform.
Construing Khan’s remark as having made against Jaya Prada, BJP’s state unit spokesperson Chandramohan said, “It’s a very obnoxious and shameful remark.”
“The level of politics cannot fall lower than this. This remark by Azam Khan reveals the actual face of the Samajwadi Party in which he is expressing his real thoughts about women oblivious of all dignity,” said Chandramohan.
The BJP also asked BSP supremo Mayawati to make her stand clear on “this indecent remark against Jaya Prada.”
NCW Slaps a Show Cause Notice on Khan
National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma too construed Khan’s remarks as having been made against the actor and termed the same as “extremely disgraceful”.
She said the women panel will be sending a show cause notice to Khan.
The tweet, which the NCW chairperson took note of quoted Khan as saying “Jaya Prada ke neeche ka underwear Khaki rang ka hai”.
This isn’t the first time that the SP leader hurled ugly verbal fisticuffs at his former colleague. Just a few days back Khan had dismissed her as a mere “nacchne wali (street dancer)”
Azam Khan has been sparring with Jaya Prada ever since she joined the BJP on March 26. She had won from Rampur on a Samajwadi Party ticket in the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections, but was shunted out in 2010 over allegations of anti-party activities.
