In a horrifying incident, at least half a dozen armed men in Jharkhand’s Khunti abducted five anti-trafficking activists, gangraped them for three hours and recorded the incident on camera.
According to a Hindustan Times report, the women were on their way to the state’s Kochang village located in Khunti district to stage an anti-trafficking play.
The victims, according to an Indian Express report, were engaged with an NGO supported by a Christian missionary. They were performing a play at RC Mission School in the village, which is located 90 kilometres away from Ranchi.
The perpetrators forced all of them to sit inside the cars and took them to a nearby secluded place and raped the five girls. Then they were taken to a nearby forest where the accused raped them for over three hours and also filmed the crime and threatened to make the rape video viral if they told police.
The accused took girls in the nearby forests & raped the victims for over three hours.
The Superintendent of police, Ashwini Kumar Sinha, told PTI that an 11-member team of an NGO had gone to the village to perform a street play on migration and human trafficking on Tuesday. A group of men subsequently barged the school and abducted them. The gang took in the nearby forests and took turns in raping the victims for over three hours. The police have identified the culprits and eight people were detained in this connection, he said.
The villagers were also said to have made a video of the incident, which continued for over three hours, and threatened them that they will make it viral if they informed the police.
Reports from the area say the men involved are supporters of Pathalgadi
Pathalgadi- A tribal system under which the people govern themselves according to the tribe’s rules and do not recognize the state’s authority. They argue that the Constitution has given them the right to practice their own systems.
The name Pathalgadi is related to the huge stone slabs inscribed with ancestral names that are preserved by the villagers.
Outsiders, including the police and government officials, are not allowed in these villages without permission.
We at Awaaz Nation condemn such acts and demand strict action against accused!
