In a shocking incident, a man and two of his female relatives, including a minor, were tied to a tree and thrashed mercilessly by villagers after the man allegedly eloped with a married woman.
The incident took place in Arjun Colony in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh.
CSP Sanjeev Mule said, “A case has been registered. We have arrested five accused. Others will be nabbed soon.”
A leading daily said that among the attackers was the husband of the woman the victim had eloped with. The other two tied to the tree were two girls for “helping in the elopement”.
The report in the daily said that many people made videos which went viral on social media. Some of the clips show men and children laughing as the trio is whipped.
In a video, one of the girls tries to block the whiplashes but a man can be seen twisting her arm while another man and woman continue to whip her.
Police have filed a case against nine people, four of whom are on the run. A POCSO case too has been registered. “We have arrested five people, including three women, and they have been sent to jail. We hope to arrest the four absconders soon,” said CSP Mule.
Mule told the daily that the wife of the prime accused, Mukesh, had escaped with her boyfriend a few days ago. Mukhesh filed a missing person’s complaint. By Tuesday, she was tracked down.
Mukesh then contacted the boyfriend and called him to Arjun Colony for a ‘compromise’. But when the man reached there with his cousins, the family beat them up.

It calls for our laws to become more stringent in order to prevent such instances from occurring again.
