Vehicles belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mukul Roy and party’s candidate from Dum Dum Lok Sabha seat, Samik Bhattacharya, were on Thursday night allegedly vandalised by unidentified men in Nagerbazar area of North 24 Parganas district.

Bhattacharya and Roy were not present at the spot when the shocking incident took place.

As seen in the video, the miscreants pelted the cars stones with stones and windows their were smashed.

The BJP has said that it will approach the police over the matter.  A delegation from the BJP will also meet Election Commission officials at 11.30 am.

The TMC claimed that Bhattacharya was campaigning beyond the designated deadline of 10 pm

The TMC cadres were protesting there until they found out that BJP leader Mukul Roy was holding a closed-door meeting with some leaders from CPI(M). Roy was holed up in that location until the police force rushed to the spot to evacuate him safely. Roy’s car was also vandalised. Several sections of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were also deployed at the spot.

All the six phases of ongoing polls in West Bengal were marred with violence

Last week, in a similar incident that took place last week, a convoy of West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh and Assam minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma was purportedly attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters in Purba Medinipur district’s Khejuri area.

The EC on Wednesday cut short the campaigning period in West Bengal by a day for the final phase of the Lok Sabha elections in view of the violence during Shah`s roadshow on Tuesday. Campaigning was originally scheduled to end at 5 pm on Friday.

The parliamentary constituencies in which elections will take place on Sunday are Kolkata North and Kolkata South, Barasat, Basirhat, Dum Dum, Jadavpur, Diamond Harbour, Jaynagar (SC) and Mathurapur (SC) seats.
