Fodder scam was one of the biggest scams in India. The investigation process in the fodder scam took a long time. The ‘mother of all scams’ as the scam was worth Rs 900 crore. It even led to Lalu Yadav resigning from his position for corruption.
The scam came to light in the year 1996 when it was found that some influential politicians were forging documents of the animal husbandry department of Bihar.
A special CBI court on 23 December convicted former Bihar CM and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Fodder scam case. 15 other people including former animal husbandry department officials were also convicted by special judge Shivpal Singh in the case.
CBI court on 6 January 2017 sentenced RJD chief Lalu Prasad to three-and-a-half years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on him.
Today we will tell you about those officers who helped unravel this scam.
Amit Khare Then- Deputy Commsioner, West Singhbhum (Chaibasa).
The fodder scam was highlighted by Amit Khare, who was the then Deputy Commsioner, West Singhbhum (Chaibasa). He was the first one to smell the corruption in the transactions of treasury and animal husbandry department. Now, he is an additional chief secretary of Jharkhand.
Lal S.C Nath Shahdeo Then- Additional Deputy Commsioner, West Singhbhum (Chaibasa).
He was given the responsibility of checking bills of animal husbandry Department and to match them with the treasury.
He did his work with full dedication and explained the forgery. Now he is retired and lives in Palkot, Gumla district.
V H Rao Deshmukh Then- Superitendent of Police, West Singhbhum (Chaibasa).
Deshmukh was called by Mr Khare. He was the one who shared idea of conducting raids. He alerted the local police and then raids were conducted. They recovered cash, bills of treasurey and stamps from supplier. Now he is a director at Bureau of Police Research and Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi
Binod Chandra Jha Then- Exective magistrate
Jha accompanied the raid team and supervised the search operations. He fulfilled his all responsibilities and suggested ideas every time.
He was elevated to IAS rank and served as an investing officer before retirement.
Fidelis Toppo Then- Sub- Divisional Officer, Sadar, Singhbhum (Chaibasa).
Toppo was Amit Khare’s subordinate. He also played an important role in the investigations of Fodder Scam. He accompanied the team during raids and recovered cash from offices and residence of the suppliers.
After retirement, he is an appointed member of JPSC.
No doubt, they deserve honor and respect. They didn’t worry about their career and successfully unearthed the scam.
