At a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh on Saturday(14 July2018), the Prime Minister raised a contentious media report that claimed Congress president Rahul Gandhi had said his was “a party of Muslims” – a statement that the Congress has firmly denied.
Here Is What PM Modi Said:-
PM Modi had said, “I have read in newspapers that the Congress naamdar (dynast) has said that the Congress is a party of Muslims. All I want to ask is, is the party only for Muslim men or is there a place for women in it too? These people block laws in Parliament and do not allow it to function.”
“The real face of these parties was revealed by their approach on triple talaq,” he said at a public meeting in Azamgarh, part of his two-day visit to eastern Uttar Pradesh.
“On one side the Centre is making efforts to ease and improve the lives of women and on the other these parties are working to put the lives of women, especially Muslim women, in danger,” he said criticising the Opposition.
“Crores of Muslim women had always demanded that triple talaq should be banned, as it is also banned in Islamic countries,” he said.
“I am not surprised as when Manmohan Singh was the PM, he had said that Muslims have the first right over natural resources,” Modi said.
“But I want to ask the Congress whether it is a party of Muslim men alone,” he added.
“Is there any place for the dignity and the rights of Muslim women? He added
PM Modi’s ‘Muslim Party’ remark stirred controversy and was slammed by the opposition!
Congress President @RahulGandhi meets & interacts with people of all walks of life. It’s a part of our democratic fabric. It should worry us all that the Modi govt. does not believe in hearing its citizens.

To attack this particular meeting to say the Congress is a party for just a section of people, shows the BJP’s divisive & communal agenda.
Grow up BJP, show some maturity.

The Congress on Sunday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying it reflected that he was a “peddler of untruths” with a “sick mentality”.
“The prime minister has continuously hurt the dignity of his office. We strictly oppose what he said yesterday(Saturday). It shows his sick mentality and twisted mindset,” senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said.
“There is an attempt by him to divide society… His main opposition, the INC, led the national movement, spearheaded the fight for independence… to call it a Muslim party does not behove a PM. His sick mindset is an issue of national concern. The prime minister gives out statements which are wrong as per history and facts,” Mr Sharma said, calling the Prime Minister a “peddler of untruths”.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lashed out at PM Modi’s ‘Muslim Party’ remark
Kejriwal said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attained nothing if the Prime Minister was talking about ‘Hindu-Muslim’ issue after four years in office. Kejriwal said, “If Modi is talking about Hindu-Muslims even after four years, it means his government has achieved nothing.”
The Delhi CM also took a jibe later by saying that if BJP was a Hindu party then it should provide Hindus both jobs and education.

SP and CPI also slammed PM Modi
Ghanshyam Tiwari of Samajwadi Party (SP) also criticised the Prime Minister and said he gave ‘tooti-footi Vikas’ (incomplete development) to the country and the states, where the BJP is ruling.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader D Raja accused the Prime Minister of denigrating the dignity of the Prime Minister of the country.
“The Prime Minister should show some dignity and should rise above petty considerations,” he said.
