A college professor in Guwahati has been arrested by police after her remarks on Indian armed forces following the Pulwama terror attack which took place on February 14 in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of 44 CRPF jawans.
Papri Banerjee, an assistant professor of English department from Guwahati’s Icon Commerce College, had made a series of absurd and controversial remarks online after the Pulwama terror attack.
“45 brave young men were killed yesterday…This was not war..They didn’t get the opportunity to fight back..This was cowardice of the highest order..It would break the heart of any Indian..But But But What have not the security forces done in the valley! You rape their women..You maim and kill their children…You slaughter their men. Your media constantly demonizes them..And you expect no retaliation?? You know what? The terrorism maybe Islamic, But KARMA is a very Indic, very Sanatana Dharma concept..Go chew on that!” Banerjee wrote on Facebook.
Banerjee also claimed that she received multiple death threats and intimidation over her post from different users on social media platforms.
“Continuous rape, lynch, and death threats in my inbox.. Assam Police should go back to the names in my previous FIR if any harm were to come over me.. They would be solely responsible,” she posted on Facebook on Saturday.
After her post went viral, right-wing Twitter handles shared the screenshot and tagged her college forcing them to suspend the professor.
Strict Action Has Been Taken Against Her
Following the outcry, Assam police registered a case in Chandmari police station in Guwahati and arrested her. Icon Commerce College had earlier, suspended Papri Banerjee following her online remarks. The UP police registered an FIR against one Basim Hilal for tweeting “How’s the Jaish”. The college administration also suspended him later.
