Indian police is often looked down upon as corrupt and uncooperative. But like all men are not rapists, all police officers are not corrupt. If we look closely, it’s not hard to find officers who are serving the civilians selflessly and setting example for polices forces all over India. Here are 8 such police officers who are shining examples of how policemen should actually be.
2. Mohan Chand Sharma
One of the most respected officers of the Delhi Police, Mohan Sharma lost his life during the bloody encounter of the terrorists suspected of 2008 blasts at Batla House in 2008. Sharma valiantly took bullets to his abdomen, thighs and right arm, ultimately succumbing to blood loss. The encounter was successful and still shines bright as an example of police bravery.
3. Vijay Salaskar
Salaskar was one of the most dreaded encounter specialists of the Mumbai police and was with Kamte and Karkare (above) when they launched an assault on the terrorists on 26/11. Salaskar also fell victim to the attack but nonetheless, left behind a legacy that will always inspire the youth.
4. K. Prasad Babu
Babu was a part of the elite Greyhounds special operations group of the Andhra Pradesh Police. Despite being really low on ammunition, a severely injured Babu saved the lives of 4 commandos and killed 9 Maoists. He is still the only police officer from Andhra Pradesh to receive the Ashok Chakra.
5. Shivdeep Waman Lande
If there’s a real life ‘dabangg’ police officer with guts and fearlessness, it has to be Lande. IPS Lande single-handedly curbed the crime rate in Patna during his time there as an SP. He came to limelight by dealing with crooks like they should be dealt with and was particularly a hit amongst the women in the state for his brother like stature. Sadly though, he was soon transferred, thanks to corrupt politicians and his fearless dealings with crime.
