The 2019 Lok Sabha election is witnessing a riveting battle in the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal, where the BJP has named Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur (who was falsely implicated by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh in the Malegaon blast case, as claimed by Sadhvi) against Congress’ Digvijaya Singh, who is credited for coining terms like ‘Saffron terror’ and ‘Hindu terror’. After attacking Hindus for a long time, Singh has recently turned to ‘soft Hindutva’ after being targeted for minority appeasement.
Thakur’s life took an unpleasant turn in 2008 after the
blasts in Malegaon in Maharashtra when the ATS arrested her for her alleged
involvement in the serial blasts.
A bike registered in her name was found from the blast site and Thakur was arrested two days after the blasts on September 29. Her Jabalpur-based rented accommodation was also searched by the ATS.
Thakur had, however, maintained that she had sold the two-wheeler to RSS pracharak Sunil Joshi years ago. She was also named as an accused in Joshi’s murder in 2008. But, she got a clean chit in the case in 2017.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) cleared Thakur’s name in the Malegaon case and she was granted bail in 2016.
Though the motorcycle used in the blast was owned by her, according to one of the witnesses, it was in the possession of Ramchandra Kalsangra, an absconding accused, she had said.
A contest between the two would be significant, as Thakur has alleged that Singh conspired to get her falsely accused in the 2008 bomb blasts in Maharashtra’s Malegaon.

I am ready for a dharma-yuddh,” Thakur had told PTI last month, when her name started doing rounds as a probable BJP candidate.
“I am ready to take on Digvijay Singh if sanghatan (organisation) asks me to do so,” she had said, calling the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister an “anti-Hindu leader who called Hindus terrorists”.
