Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asked students to pursue the ‘Swachh Bharat Summer Internship 2018’ during their summer vacation for bringing a change in the society. First of its kind, the summer internship was introduced by UGC and includes credit points, said Mr Modi during his monthly Mann Ki Baat programme. The internship was jointly designed by the Union ministries of HRD, sports and water.
He also announced incentives, including credit point by the UGC, for participants. In his monthly ‘Mann ki Baat’ broadcast, the PM said three ministries of his government have launched an internship programme and it is an opportunity for those who want to work for the society, contribute positively and bring about a change.
Objective of the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship (SBSI) 2018 programme
The objective of this internship programme is to engage the youth across the country and develop their skill and orientation for sanitation related work, amplify mass awareness on cleanliness and cement the people’s movement (Jan andolan) aspect of Swachh Bharat Mission. This is in line with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call on October 2, 2014 for each individual to devote 100 hours to Swachhata through the year.
The 100-hour experiential internship programme would require the candidate to visit one or more villages and conduct activities of their choice to contribute to the cause of rural sanitation in India. Interested students can register themselves for the summer internship from April 25, 2018, up to May 15, 2018.
The programme is expected to not only provide a great learning experience to students but hopes to also further the existing measures undertaken by the government in ensuring a clean and healthy India. “This is an opportunity for those young people who wish to contribute to the country, bring about a change in society and learn something in the process,” PM Modi said during his Mann Ki Batt.
The “Swachh Bharat Summer Internship 2018” is open to college students, NCC cadets and Nehru Yuva Kendra members.
All the participants will be given a Swachh Bharat Internship Certificate upon the completion of their internship. Two curriculum credits will be given to interns. Whoever wants to do something substantial, learn something for the sake of society and country, there is a great opportunity. Best interns will be rewarded at national level and those who accomplish tasks will be awarded two credit points each by the UGC.
Those who participate in it will feel “a sense of fulfillment” when the country celebrates the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, he said. The programme will help in providing boost to the government’s cleanliness campaign.
The best three at college level will be awarded shields/cups and special certificates. The top 3 at the state level would get Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000, while those at the national level will get Rs 2 lakh, Rs 1 lakh, and Rs 50,000.
Are you ready for the Internship!
