A horrific and brutal incident came to light last month (January 19) when the workers at Corporation dump yard recovered a woman’s limbs — a hand and two legs — and informed the Pallikaranai police regarding this.
The deseased was wife of Gopalakrishnan, a Tamil filmmaker who has been arrested for her murder.
Sandhya had approached an All-Woman Police to file a domestic violence complaint
The deceased, Sandhya (35) was married to Balakrishnan (51) and the couple had two children. They lived in Jafferkhanpet in the city. Police say the couple had several issues in their relationship. In November 2018, Sandhya had approached an All-Woman Police Station in Thoothukudi to file a domestic violence complaint against her husband.
She was counselled by the police officials at the station. However, she had submitted a letter saying she wanted a divorce and that she would leave her children in the custody of Balakrishnan’s brother in Thoothukudi.
Sandhya, herself, was a native of Nagercoil. Later, the couple decided to bury the hatchet and Sandhya returned to Chennai to live with her husband. However, it did not end good.
The filmmaker killed Sandhya, chopped her and dropped pieces in garbage bins after an argument
An argument broke out again on January 19. “In a fit of rage, Balakrishnan hit his wife in the head with a sharp object, leading to her death,” a police officer privy to the case details told Express. “Then, he chopped off her limbs and stuffed them into a plastic bag. He then disposed the body parts the next day in various dustbins across MGR Nagar area and some in the Cooum River.” On January 21, he returned to work as usual to avoid any suspicion.
A tattoo led to his arrest
Corporation’s sanitation workers brought the garbage in a truck from Kodambakkam area of the city to Perungudi, who alerted the police about this.
The hand had a tattoo and police were initially clueless. But a missing woman complaint in Thoothukdi threw some light and the deceased was identified as Sandhya (39) from the southern port town of Thoothukudi.
It led to the arrest of Gopalakrishnan and during questioning, he admitted to having committed the crime, police said.
Sandhya have two kids, a son and daughter.
Could GopalaKrishnan alone cut the body into pieces
However, police suspect that Gopalakrishnan alone could not have cut the body into pieces in his crowded neighbourhood. Further investigation is on to ascertain whether some of Gopalakrishnan’s friends helped him.
The news comes a day after a doctor in Madhya Pradesh was reported to have killed his driver, cut his body into over two dozen pieces and put them in a drum filled with acid to dissolve them, in a technique similar to one seen in TV show Breaking Bad.
