India has two largest parties- Indian National Congress (INC) & Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In 2014, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power with a big victory in the Lok Sabha elections. The “Modi wave” beat the Indian National Congress (INC) and formed government. And since then Rahul Gandhi & Narendra Modi are launching verbal attacks on each other’s party and work. Rahul Gandhi is considered as candidate for Prime Minister Post on next 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
But have you ever thought about good and positive things about both Rahul Gandhi & Narendra Modi? If not, then you must read this article as it will enhance your knowledge about two main arch rivals of two largest parties of India.
Rahul Gandhi has come a long way since 2014. He is no longer the Pappu that he was being projected as by traditional and social media.
Gandhi’s education and work experience give him a bonus point: This shows that he is among the most educated politicians in India. He has corporate work experience and a Masters degree in development studies which makes him the perfect person who can understand business issues and international commercial negotiations.
Bold decisions during Congress time
NREGA, RTI, Right to Food, Land Acquisition Act, democratising the internal structure of Congress by electing young leaders, have been amongst the most progressive changes India has ever seen.
But it has created a challenge to win the hearts and minds of Hindus without becoming a poor copy of Hindutva. The biggest challenge is to oppose Hindu nationalism without alienating Hindus.
He is improving with time
Rahul Gandhi is trying hard to do an image makeover and emerge as a witty leader through his sarcasm-filled tweets for more than 8 million followers. The Congress President’s reach at social media platforms, has dramatically increased in the past few months.
Rahul Gandhi had conducted himself in a dignified manner after the Pulwama attack.
Mr. Gandhi supported the government in the moment of crisis and avoided any form of criticism, which was appreciated by citizens. He showed maturity. But Prime Minister Modi continued with his aggressive election speeches, attacked the Gandhi family and opposition gaining political mileage.
Now Lets Talk About Narendra Modi
Many may call him an anti-Muslim or a Hindu with extremist tendencies but is that true?
A champion of development
The mission of development has become Modi’s main USP, capturing the eyes of the public since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections with slogans like ‘Acche Din’, ‘Sab ka Saath, Sabka Vikaas’ and ‘Abki Bar Modi Sarkar’.
After being voted to power he brought initiatives like the ‘Jan Dhan Yojana’, ‘Startup India, Standup India’, ‘Smart Cities’ and ‘Make in India’.
The economy has also made sufficient progress and we are still growing.
His handling of terrorism and security threats
Who can forget 2016 Surgical strike after Uri attack? On September 26, 2016, a team of commandos from the Army’s Para Special Forces crossed the LoC and destroyed at least four launchpads used by terrorists. Modi government also made the videos and the images of the strikes public.
Now, lets talk about the recent Pulwama Terror Attack in which more than 44 CRPF soldiers were killed.
Exactly Twelve days after the Pulwama terror attack, the Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out major strikes at terror camps of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Balakot town of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. At 3.30am on Tuesday (26 Feb 2019) morning, India woke up to the news of the Indian Air Force attacking terror camps. India carried out the strike by 12 Mirage 2000 fighter jets. Many countries supported India.
Narendra Modi works for 16–18 hours per day. He didn’t take any single holiday.
Narendra Modi takes bold decisions. Let’s not forget his bold decisions like:
- #IAF Air Strike After Pulwama Attack
- Surgical Strike & many more
The main difference between Modi & Rahul Gandhi is their “surname” Modi vs Gandhi
Narendra Modi belongs to a typical common & poor Indian family whom Congress and opposition leaders mocked as “chaiwala” (tea seller) because he used to sell tea to help his family. But his Chaiwala image had drawn millions of people’s attraction especially from middle class people. The biggest advantage BJP has over Congress , is the apparent influence of the Gandhi family over the latter. BJP with all its possible drawbacks is still a party without a “family” tag on it. Pm Narendra Modi, himself, has on occasions challenged Congress to appoint a non-Gandhi party member to the post of president.
Strong Foreign Relations
Modi’s international trips have always generated a buzz. But India’s global presence is said to have become stronger ever since Narendra Modi came into power.
PM is focusing on Middle Eastern economies as India is dependent on them for two-third of the oil imports. Many Indians migrate to the Middle East for jobs too.
Countries PM Modi visited include America, China, Germany, Russia, Japan, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Fiji, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Mongolia, Mozambique, Netherlands, South Africa, South Korea, Spain and Sweden.
The road ahead is very challenging for both Congress and BJP. But one thing is very clear that 2019 elections will no longer be just a one man’s show, as witnessed in 2014. The fight is tough.
