The truth is the driver of the Jalandhar-Amritsar DMU train has not committed suicide. At present, he is in the custody of Punjab Railways. The claimed suicide note is indeed his statement that he submitted to the officials narrating about what happened on October 19. The viral pictures are of some other person who committed suicide near Tarn Tarn area.

The videos and the pictures that are being circulated are from another incident that happened on Saturday, 20 October, near Jhawal Road in Bohru, Amritsar.

He had also been receiving treatment for seizures he would get owing to a mental illness,” Singh said. He added that the deceased had tried to commit suicide several times over the last two years but had been rescued by family and friends. “On the day of the incident, Singh left home on his bike to Bohru and stopped near a barrage and then killed himself.”

The letter shared along with the images is the statement of Arvind Kumar, the loco-pilot.

Kumar said that he blew the horn and applied the emergency brakes but did not stop as people were pelting stones at the train.

However, witnesses of the incident have contested Kumar’s statement claiming that the train did not slow down and no stone pelting took place. Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, former MLA and wife of Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, had attended the event before the mishap.

The state’s opposition party, Shiromani Akali Dal have demanded the resignation of the minister and registration of murder case against the organizers and Kaur.
