Union Minister Jayant Sinha met eight people convicted in the Ramgarh lynching case in Jharkhand. Not only did the minister meet them, he went ahead to garland them. Photographs of the event, believed to have been organised on 6 June 2018, have gone viral (however Awaaz Nation does not confirm the credibility of the photographs). They show the minister welcoming the eight men at his house on the outskirts of Hazaribagh and even garlanding some of them.
The eight men convicted in the Ramgarh lynching case in Jharkhand were released on bail on Thursday. The act of the minister triggered a political storm as the opposition accused him and the BJP of fanning communal tensions deliberately.
Lashing out at the minister, Former Jharkhand CM and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren told News18 that it was a very sensitive issue and what Sinha did was absolutely unbecoming of a union minister.
“Any kind of support to such elements is deplorable. This is the true color of BJP. They just want to win election and for that their leaders can cross any limit,” Jharkhand state Congress chief Ajoy Kumar told News18 and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of fanning communal tension.
Here is the matter
A group of people had lynched Alimuddin Ansari, 40, in Bazaar Tand locality of Ramgarh town on June 29, 2017, on the suspicion that he was carrying beef in his car. Forensic tests later confirmed that the meat he was carrying was beef.
In March this year, a fast track court convicted 11 people for lynching. However, last week, Jharkhand High Court suspended the life sentence of eight persons, including a BJP functionary.
They were released from the Jai Prakash Narain Central Jail and headed straight to the minister’s residence where they were garlanded and welcomed in.
Twitter reacts angrily and criticized the minister!
If there was slightest doubt that Hindutva violence is done by fringe elements and BJP doesn’t support it, Union Minister Jayant Sinha has cleared that. In which other civilized country is this possible? Men who beat another man to death is garlanded. Shame on you India. Shame.

Felicitation of Cow terrorists by union minister Jayant Sinha is a clear endorsement of violence& terrorism by this govt in the name of cow.
If Modi still believes in indian constitution or there’s any shame left he should immediately expel Sinha and order enquiry against him. pic.twitter.com/AQnsfjM0oG

Fast track court gave them life sentences, High Court lets them go, what a judicial disparity.
