We all appreciate Do It Yourself (DIY) things. DIY is interesting and exciting, but if not done properly it might have disastrous consequences. A 26-year-old single full-term pregnant woman attempted self-delivery at her rented accommodation here while watching a child delivery video on YouTube. Both, the woman and her child, a boy, died in the process.
The stigma of having a baby out of wedlock may have forced the 26-year-old to attempt the delivery herself.
Station house officer (SHO), Cantonment, Ravi Rai said that the matter came to light when the deceased’s neighbours informed her landlord about blood flowing out of her room on Monday morning.
The woman’s neighbours informed her landlord about blood flowing out of her room on Monday morning. The landlord then broke the door open and found the woman and the baby dead, Cantonment police station house officer Ravi Rai told the newspaper. Her smart phone revealed that she was watching ‘how to deliver baby by self’ and other similar safe delivery processes on YouTube,” Rai said.
The police also found scissors, blade and threads near the woman’s body.
The landlord told police that a few days ago the woman approached him and mentioned that after four days her mother would come to assist her in the delivery.
Rai further added that the police couldn’t confirm the exact reason why she had rented the room and even her family did not mention anything about it. However, the family has refused to lodge FIR against anybody in the case.
Police sent the bodies for autopsy, and then handed them over to her family, which lives in Bahraich.
The family received her body post the autopsy and have not filed an FIR against anybody, said SHO Ravi Rai.
The Stigma of having baby without marriage is so worst that it cost many lives daily in India. This is 21st century but women are still pressurized to follow certain rules.
