Today in the first one day international between India and Srilanka Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer made his debut and catch the position of 229th One day international Player of India. Shreyas is a great player and may be in future he will help India by his outstanding performance. Here are 10 unknown facts about Shreyas that would make you amaze.

  • Shreyas Iyer was born in Mumbai on December 6, 1994. He was part of the 2014 ICC Under-19 World Cup. He was spotted by former Indian cricketer Pravin Amre who trained him in his early cricketing days.

 

  • His teammates at age-group levels compared him to Virender Sehwag for his stroke-making ability. He helped his college Podar College lift trophies during his graduation days.

  • Iyer also has a short film made on him on his  junior and age-group cricket journey. The film is titled ‘Shreyas Iyer Documentary – A Father’s Dream’ which is directed by cricket writer Aayush Puthran.

 

  • Iyer also played for Trent Bridge Cricket Team in UK in 2014. He scored 297 runs at an average of 99 in three matches for Trent Bridge.

 

  • He made a spectacular Ranji debut for Mumbai, making 809 runs at an average of 50.5 in 2014-2015 with 2 centuries and 6 fifties. He was the seventh highest run-getter during that Ranji campaign. Iyer made his List A debut in 2014-15 Vijay Hazare Trophy, aggregating 273 runs at an average of 54.60.

  • Iyer was bought for Rs 2.6 crore by Delhi Daredevils in 2015, a whopping 26 times more than his base price of Rs 10 lakh.

 

  • Playing for Delhi Daredevils in 2015 IPL, Iyer won the Emerging Player award. He scored 439 runs at an average of 33.76 and strike rate of 128.36.

 

  • Mumbai Indians reportedly gave an offer to Delhi Daredevils to buy Shreyas Iyer in exchange of three players, including Australian star Aaron Finch. But the offer was promptly turned down by DD.

  • He is the in-form player for Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. He has scored 1321 runs at an average of 73.80 and strike rate of 92.70. He is 95 runs short of breaking VVS Laxman’s record tally of 1415 runs in a Ranji campaign. With one final innings still to go in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy, Iyer can break Laxman’s record.

 

  • Iyer credits himself for his success. He was quoted as saying, “…a majority of the credit goes to me because I have worked hard. Many of them give you advice, you have to just listen to yourself and keep performing.”
